Hacks to have fulfilling work day

Every 9-5 job holder will understand how tedious it gets to keep doing the same monotonous work day after day and week after week.

Sometimes, even the thought of getting up in the morning can leave a person depressed and filled with dread.

Have you ever wondered, when and how you started dreading something that you used to love and have worked so hard to achieve?

If not, then let me answer this for you. The sole reason for this is that you are not having a fulfilling work day.

What is a fulfilling work day, you wonder?

Let me answer this as well!

While there is no single or straightforward definition that could explain the phenomenon of loving your job or euphoria you get when you overcome challenges successfully.

But, there are some key ( and very important) attributes that you can tick to rate how rewarding your day at work was.

Some Key Attributes For a Fulfilling Day:

  •  Freedom-

Freedom is possibly one of the biggest factors that determine how happy you are with your work and how rewarding you find it.

Statistics have shown organizations, where employees are allowed to exercise their free will and make decisions in their domain, are happier than employees who are micro – managed.

Interestingly, same employees who are given the freedom to pave their own way tends to work harder and smarter than people without it.

A win- win for everyone, don’t you agree?

  • Sense of Accomplishment

This point is inherently in tune with the first point. You feel accomplished when you achieve something on your merits. Something that you have worked hard for.

And, trust me, sense of accomplishment is the best motivation for anyone to carry on their work.

And, how it is tied with the first point you ask?

Because it feels doubly rewarding when you have the freedom to take your decisions and when they pay off in the end, you are filled with self-confidence as well as the happiness of a task well done.

  • Creative inputs

If you are working in a company which encourages you to think out of the box, lets you speak your mind and allows you to share your inputs during meetings and values them, half of your battle is already won.

It is possible that some or most of your inputs will not be implemented or taken into account, but just the confidence that your contributions are appreciated will make you feel like a part of the team and fill you with the urge of working hard to give the best you can to your organization.

Sounds relatable, doesn’t it?

  • Learning

The worst thing that you can do to yourself is to stop your growth by stop learning.

Yes, you finally have that dream job that you always wanted.

But, why are you forgetting that how much you studied and how much you have learned to get where you are.

Don’t and I repeat, don’t do it to yourself. If you want to advance in your career, you will have to keep adding additional skills in your quiver else you will be stuck doing the same job until the end of the time ( or your retirement), and this is the cycle we definitely don’t want to continue.

Besides, as Henry Ford has said “ Keep Learning to stop aging”

So, Double benefits from the single effort, right?

  • Evaluation

Now, everyone is aware or in some cases afraid of word “ Evaluation” ( read, appraisals), but what I am going to talk about here is different from the type of evaluation you are familiar with.

And, if anyone has guessed what I am going to talk about, they have guessed it right.

Most important thing in order to have a fulfilling day is to evaluate self at the beginning and end of your day.

Set your goals and targets, in the beginning, drive the roadmap to achieve them, and start working.

Do the same at the end your day, analyze how many targets you have achieved, what were your distractions and how could you avoid them and do better tomorrow.

This method will not only help you in making your current day fulfilling but also in initializing process to have another great day.

Just a word of caution though, don’t set unrealistic goals because it will not only bring your morale down but will also make this entire exercise of ours futile.
